I hope everyone has had a great week! There are so many fun things to do this time of your with the kids. We got to enjoy a fun scavenger hunt in our small town yesterday. It was their first year putting it on, and it definitely won’t be the last year. The kids absolutely loved it! The clues that were given had the kids going to the fire department, the post office, the church, and a few other places!
A friend of mine sent me an idea for my daughter’s hair, and said I have to do it! I decided the scavenger hunt was the perfect time to do it. I took a red pipe cleaner and rolled it up into a ball for Rudolph’s nose. For the antlers, I cut up two brown pipe cleaners into 3 pieces each, and twisted them together. All that was left was to hot glue the eyes, nose, and antlers onto bobby pins. It turned out so cute, and she had so much fun showing everyone!
Public School
On another note, we did have one difficult thing happen this week. My daughter has been taking one class at the public school two days per week. She seemed to be enjoying it, but she hadn’t been telling me that the kids there were hurting her feelings and telling her that she doesn’t belong there. When I found this out, it broke my heart. I just wanted this class to be something fun for her to do each week. I never want my daughter, especially my 6 year-old daughter, feeling like she doesn’t belong.
Now, I did let the teacher know what was going on, but we did decide to go ahead and take her out of the public school completely. Some people think I should have made her stay, and face her bullies. She is only 6 years-old. She should not be getting bullied for being a homeschooler. Kids making her feel like she is stupid or ugly, is not going to work for me either. Since she is homeschooled, we have plenty of other opportunities in our area to get together with other homeschoolers who understand homeschool life.
We are so excited for this new journey! Hopefully my daughter can get some new friends out of it too! Let’s go ahead and start making a Christmas ornament!
Angel Christmas Ornament
Supplies
- Gold pipe cleaner
- Doll clothespin
- Wood star
- White felt
- Elmer’s glue
- Yellow marker
Step 1:
First you want to cut out some angel wings from the white felt. This can be done by folding some felt in half and cutting the wings out like you would a heart. I did this craft for quite a few children, so I found a simple set of angel wings and had my Cricut Maker cut them out for me. Then you can put a bead of glue down the center of the wings and glue the doll clothespin onto them. Make sure the slit in the clothespin is seen on the sides of the angel and not on the front.
Step 2:
Next your child can color the star. We used a yellow marker, so there would be less mess. It would look great painted as well! Go ahead and glue it onto the front of the angel.
Step 3:
Lastly, cut a small piece of gold pipe cleaner for the halo. Twist it into a circle, and then glue it onto the head of your angel. Let it dry, and then set your angel Christmas ornament on your tree using the slit in the clothespin!
Gingerbread Man Christmas Ornament
Supplies
- Small wooden gingerbread man
- Wooden disposable ice cream spoon
- Decorative Christmas paper
- Pipe cleaner
- Gingerbread Man Gospel
- Hole punch
- Drill
- Fine point markers
- Glue
Step 1:
This Christmas ornament centers around the Gingerbread Man Gospel. It is a really neat way of looking at a gingerbread man. You can find the story at https://goodshepherdowatonna.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/TheGingerbreadManGospel-1.pdf. This will need printed out at a smaller scale, so that it can be folded up and put into a mini envelope. Start decorating the small wooden gingerbread man with fine point markers according to the directions in the Gingerbread Man Gospel. Each step of decorating it is shown below.
Step 2:
Have an adult drill a hole into the handle of the wooden disposable ice cream spoon. Then you can decorate the spoon however you would like to. Once it is decorated, glue your gingerbread man onto the scoop part of the spoon.
Step 3:
Next, make a mini envelope out of decorative Christmas paper. I have a mini envelope stencil that I traced around to make my daughter’s envelope. Mini envelopes can be made from a pattern off the computer, cut out with a Cricut machine, or they can be purchased. It just needs to be nice enough to fit your Gingerbread Man Gospel into. Once it is cut out and glued together, punch a hole in the top of the open flap.
Step 4:
Put your Christmas ornament together with a pipe cleaner or string. Cut it to a length you like, and then string the envelope on and then the spoon on. Twist the ends together to form a loop. Now your gingerbread man Christmas ornament is done and ready for the tree!
Enjoy Your Week!
I hope these Christmas ornaments are fun for your children! I think both of them are a wonderful reminder that Jesus is the true reason for Christmas. Make this your craft and even Bible story for one day this week during your homeschool day. They will not take very long, so it shouldn’t cut into your day too much. Please enjoy, and share pictures of your creations with me!
I had planned on playing some fun Christmas songs with the kids at church this morning, but we had a wonderful group of kids who performed a Christmas program. Since this was happening, we ended up not doing children’s church, so no kids music. I will share some of them with you and your kids instead. Here is a fun selection of Christmas songs that you can play while your kids create their Christmas ornaments. Have a wonderful week!
