This week we have been focusing on getting school done first thing in the morning, and then working on the house in the afternoon. My father is coming to stay with us for about a month next weekend to help us fix our disaster of a garage. More on that later. We have made time for the fun parts of Home Economics though. My daughter has learned so much from this class, and basically made no-bake cookies all by herself. They are my husband’s favorite, and he thought they were absolutely delicious!
Birthday Week!
It was also my birthday this week! We didn’t do anything too exciting, but my husband did take me out on a date night. It was a nice break from life, even though it was slightly ruined by a stuffy nose. The actual day of my birthday, I spent the whole day raking up all the leaves in my yard that should have been cleared from the yard in the fall. We did start the day off with delicious Sourdough Discard Pancakes. It was a very good way to start the day. If you are on your sourdough journey, try this recipe out! They are the best pancakes I have ever ate. I did add chocolate chips to them, because I needed something extra for my birthday.
To finish up my birthday week, my wonderful mother-in-law took me out to dinner. We never get to do that together, and we had the best time. I’m so grateful for all my family and friends, who helped make my week special. My daughter’s Home Economics no-bake cookies were a very yummy sweet treat this week as well.
Home Economics
Before I share the results of watching my daughter make no-bake cookies, I want to tell you about this wonderful Home Economics class. As you all know, I am an affiliate of Schoolhouse Teachers. This class is called Home Economics with Heather Leach and is directed to Kindergarten through 4th grade ages. If you are interested in this class, you can find it at https://schoolhouseteachers.com/school-subjects/electives/home-economics/ref/119608/.
Self Management
I absolutely love how this course is taught, because it is completely centered around God. She starts by teaching about self management, and how you can take care of yourself by being clean and staying healthy. Another part of this is about working on your heart and keeping focused on God. There are Bible verses to memorize and scriptures to read. She even has an award system for your children if they try some of the things they have learned during each week.
Hospitality
The next section of Home economics is all about Hospitality. In this section she teaches all about nutrition and all the food groups. There is even a party planning part of this, where your child has to plan a party with nutrition in mind. She also explains how God gave you this body, and you should take care of it the way that He would want it to be taken care of. Nutrition is a very important part of this.
Kitchen
Then we moved on to the Kitchen section. This was all about learning all of the different tools and measurements used in the kitchen. She also went into safety in the kitchen. This was a very important part for me to teach my daughter. I don’t normally let her anywhere near the stove top. The safety sheet brought up safety tips that I didn’t even think about telling my daughter. When you cook, you just do it. You don’t normally think about all of the different things you do to stay safe. This section made me more comfortable about letting my daughter use the stove top.
Cooking
Now we are currently working through the last section of Home Economics, which is Cooking. This is when we take everything that has been learned and put it to practice in the kitchen. For the first project, she got to make No-Bake Cookies! Over the next few weeks, we will make something for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It should be a fun and delicious three more weeks of this course!
No-Bake Cookies!
I know that probably everyone has made no-bake cookies before, but I am just so proud of my daughter for learning everything from this Home Economics class and making these delicious cookies. Since it is such a simple recipe, I will just share a few pictures of the process. For someone who was terrified of the stove before this class, she did such an amazing job with these cookies. I am so grateful for this course helping her get over her fear.
God’s Measured Blessings
During this no-bake cookie week, she taught about measurements in cooking as well as in life. When it comes to doing good things for people, God wants you to do it from your heart. You should not expect anything in return. If you can do things the way God would want you to, He will bless you with His good measure. You will be rewarded through God. When doing something kind for someone else, it should be just that. Be kind to others, and God will bless you.
Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:38
This week, I pray that we all are able to work on doing good for others without expecting anything in return. It can be hard to put work in, and get nothing out of it. Just remember that whatever work you put in, God will bless the same amount back to you.
Our Garage
This last summer, we hired a contractor to tear down our existing garage and build a new pole barn garage in its place. This took absolutely forever, and it was never even finished. Through the entire process, we were kind, and offered help in areas that we could. We were patient for the most part as well. After a few noticeable issues, we realized that the entire building was out of square (not a rectangle with 90 degree angles in the corners). Well that is when he decided he no longer wanted to work on our garage.
I spent so much time being angry about this and trying to figure out how to get our money back from this unfortunate event. It is so frustrating that this happened. He seemed like a very kind man, and acted as if he knew what he was doing, and we trusted him. Well after some time, my father and brother came up with a plan to fix it. Friends and neighbors have been offering to help where they can. I am so beyond grateful to everyone, who has been there for us through all of this. The anger has slowly drifted away, and I can’t wait to see this garage finished. My father will be out here for a month or so, which means I may not have much time to make any blog posts. I will update you all on my Homeloved Mama Facebook page through it all though.
Have a wonderful week friends!
